The ADV premiere panel was a bit of a disappointment to me overall. ADV showed the first episode of 3 series, 009-1, Innocent Venus, and Ah! My Goddess Season 2. 009-1 and Ah! My Goddess Season 2 were two previously and soon to be released series which was disappointing because I was hoping for more new announcements at the premiere. I did enjoy seeing the first episode of Ah! My Goddess Season 2 because I am a fan of the series, but 009-1 didn’t interest me at all (except for the couple fanservice shots which amused me). Innocent Venus was the one new announcement that ADV made during the entire convention, which was disappointing, especially since Innocent Venus doesn’t interest me much. I will give quick summaries of the plots of the 3 series in case they interest someone else more.
009-1 is about a group of female cyborg spies who are helping out the West Block of the world during the extended Cold War. In the episode that was shown, they needed to get the research of an East Block scientist who wanted to defect to the West. They needed to keep the research from reaching the wrong hands on the East because it could be used to disrupt the signing of a peace treaty between the two sides and ending the Cold War.
In Innocent Venus we are taken to a world that was devastated by Hyper Hurricanes. The hurricanes killed 5 billion people and caused the worlds economies and militaries to collapse as well as changing the face of the planet. Poverty became the norm for all but a small elite group who rose to become the ruling class. A renegade group has risen against this ruling class, and managed to rescue Noto Sana, a mysterious girl which the ruling class is very interested in.
Finally, Ah! My Goddess Season 2 is the continuation of Ah! My Goddess TV. I can’t say much about the premiere unfortunately because it would give away major portions of the end of the first season. Suffice it to say that if you liked season 1, or Ah! My Goddess in general, you would like Season 2.
Also at the ADV Premiere, there was a question and answer and a prize giveaway. The Q&A segment really didn’t give us any new information. The prize giveaway was disappointing because instead of asking trivia questions as they have done in the past, they were pressed for time and asked people to perform “Stupid Human Tricks”, many of which were pretty sad. And that was the extent of the ADV Premiere Panel.
